The Saturday Mix #41 - just gimme a second and i'll tell you

Got the picture of the cassette from here.

Hidden Cameras - Underage
Really comical video whatwith all the painted faces, even more so when they go "wa-ooh-wa-ooh-wa-ooh". Right off the bat as they stare at each other and break off in unison after a cacophony of birds chirping, it somehow feels right. Lovely catchy beat and lyrics I've yet to fully comprehend. And the shower (of I don't know what) at the end is beautiful.

Hidden Cameras - Underage (Holy Fuck Remix)

Sebastian Tellier - La Ritournelle (Mr. Dan's Magic Wand Remix)
Twinkly xylophones (probably a sample) dot this relax soundscape by Mr Tellier.

Shout Out Louds - Fall Hard
How does a rock song feel so elegant and punchy at the same time?

Shout Out Louds - Fall Hard (Passion Pit's Summertime Radio Remix)
This sounds like a keeper. It has a Neon Indian feel to the remix, going all psych rock on this song. The synths add a different dimension to this song, lovely.

Music Go Music - Warm In The Shadows (Fred Falke Remix)
Fred Falke does an 8-bit treatment of this song. Feels really warm and summery. Let's do the boogey now and get sashaying down the streets!

Florrie - Panic Attack (Fred Falke Extended Mix) (mp3)
Link provided by her own site.

Ooh, one woman show it seems. And if Fred Falke graces her songs with his magic, he's prolly seeing something in her. And rightfully so, she sounds polished and that bassline sounds sweet as hell.

The Saturday Mix #38 - asleep for twenty years with this feeling

Sebastien Tellier - Divine (Danger Remix)
Oh so divine. What do you get when Danger does a mix on divine music? You get a dangerously divine song. (Cheesy I know, but had to let it out.)

Mille - Crysteena (Fear of Tigers Remix)
Mille means 1000 in French. Wonder if it's derived as such.

Fear of Tigers - The Adventures of Pippi Longstrump (Diamond Cut Remix)
Who is Pippi Longstrump? I have a feeling it's Pippi Longstocking, a fictional character in a series of children's books by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, and adapted into multiple films and television series. In Swedish, it's Pippi Långstrump; Pippi Langstrømpe in Norwegian; and Pippi Langstrumpf in German.

Scanners - Salvation (Don Diablo Remix)
Just how do you turn a rock song into a dancefloor mix?

Metric - Sick Muse (Adam Freeland Remix)
I'm in love with this remix, it's way too dope. NOO! He broke up the "I'll write you harmony in C".

The Radio Dept. - David (The Rice Twins remix)
This is going down with me as slow and purposeful. Good beat, could be semi chillout too, for a change of pace.

Beni - Maximus (Harvard Bass Remix)

forever journey on golden avenues

Fashion could be more relevant. It needs to be understood rather than just consumed.

- Stefano Pilati, Creative Director YSL

Luke Vibert - Electrophy
What got me was the speaking in the front, that 'intro-ed' the song. It sounded a lot like the narrator in BioShock. Very interesting creation here.

The Honeydrips - Fall From a Height
The narration in the song, again is mysterious and alluring all the same. Much less needs to be said of the ethereal soundscape, almost psychedelic and otherworldly. Fantastic. Just realised where the narration comes from - sample quotes from Annie Hall (starring Woody Allen and Diane Keaton) and Rebel Without a Cause (starring James Dean). At only 2:35, I wish it were half a minute longer.

Sebastien Tellier - La Ritournelle
Loosely translated as 'the jingle', don't be surprised at the extended "intro", which has the sole purpose of setting the mood for the song. Four entire minutes dedicated to pure craft, with which he ensures you absorb everything, ready to embrace the latter half of the song. And he doesn't let down, with simple lyrics about love, it complements the keyboard wonderfully. However, the 48 seconds or so of one chorus seems to pass by so fleetingly, as the song dwindles to an embracing warmth.

Class Actress - Journal of Ardency
“sweetly spectral vocals over lush ’80s synths and beats.” – NYLON

I have to concur. First thing I was thinking, female solo version of The Polyamorous Affair? She's awesome!

The Saturday Mix #35 - i'm alone in life to say

Sebastien Tellier - Divine
This dude with all the scraggly beard and all, looks like a certain saviour of the world in a certain tome. (I don't mean any insult, just an entirely innocuous comment, I swear.) But anyhow, back to what I wanted to say, he was selected to represent France in Eurovision 2008 with this song. Love the upbeat vibe and the nonchalance with which he sings about looking for a band and finding the Milky Way.

Sebastien Tellier - Divine (Danger Remix)
Extended remix for your listening pleasure.

Chairlift - Evident Utensil
Check this out at RCRD LBL. Psychedelic madness. Oooh oooh ooohs filled the airspace as you feel yourself go all slushy while those electronic beats pulsate.

Chairlift - Evident Utensil (Jacques Renault Remix)

Hercules & Love Affair - Blind (Frankie Knuckles Remix)
This had to come sooner or later, with all the love I've been giving to the original. Down tempo mix that's given it a house sort of beat. Niceeeeeeee!

HURTS - Wonderful Life (Arthur Baker remix)

Simian Mobile Disco - Cruel Intentions (feat. Beth Ditto) (Joker Dubstep Remix)

The Saturday Mix #32 - love is all we are, the rest amounts to nothing

Rob - Femme et Enfant (feat. Sebastien Tellier)
I don't know what genre is this, but I can hear the piano/keyboard, bass drums and what not. But whatever it is, this song is really really good.

Owl City - Fireflies
The first thing I noticed about him was that he (Owl City = Adam Young) sounded a hell lot like someone, and a few moments later, The Postal Service popped right into my head. This was corroborated with some googling and wiki-ing of Owl City, which yielded many references to him ripping The Postal Service off. I'm not one for mudslinging really, but well, he's selling the goods and making the money (off someone's coattails, most might add). Anyhow, check out this scathing review by Pitchfork. I'm surprised they even gave him a 1, with a "review" like that, I was expecting a -100.

Owl City - Fireflies (Marlow Remix)
Ok, I actually didn't wanto give Owl City a run here. Let me tell you the whole thing. When I first heard of Owl City, I immediately went meh. I mean, Owl City? It sounds retarded. And I put off listening to anything by him. Then first came this remix via RCRD LBL, and so I just had to listen it (it's the itch, curiosity kills the cat). The remix didn't change much of the original, just taking the synth pop and adding the touch of bass and groove to make it dance floor ready. And it brought me to the original and voila, I opened up a can of worms for myself. I just had to bring this out for discussion.

So what do you think of Owl City - young chap that got a lucky break from posting his stuff on myspace or virtual rip-off who deserves nothing?

Primary 1 & Riton - Radiates

Primary 1 & Riton - Radiates (Riton Rerub)
I'm getting LAZY!

Kaskade & deadmau5 - I Remember (Strobelite Edit)

Vibrasphere - Tierra Azul
Check out this semi-ambient down-tempo track. One word - nice. One guess where they're from.

Yeahh, SWEDEN! Pure gold.
