The Saturday Mix #39

Music Go Music - Light Of Love

Music Go Music - Light Of Love (diskJokke Remix) (mp3)
Up and coming Norwegian dude with a penchant for making some pretty dope remixes.

Foals - Olympic Airways (Supermayer Remix)

Lykke Li - Dance Dance Dance (Buraka Som Sistema Remix)
Those loops sound delicious as hell. Love that deep pulsing beat. Is that a genre that sounds like that? Pretty sure there is.

Hercules & Love Affair - Blind (Hercules Club Remix)
Interesting take on the song. They turned the horns part into something more electro sounding. You feel the bounce? Yeah, it's there.

Passion Pit - Sleepyhead (Cassette Club Remix)

Holiday for Strings - Two of You (The Toxic Avenger Remix)

Au Revoir Simone tomorrow night!!

The Saturday Mix #35 - i'm alone in life to say

Sebastien Tellier - Divine
This dude with all the scraggly beard and all, looks like a certain saviour of the world in a certain tome. (I don't mean any insult, just an entirely innocuous comment, I swear.) But anyhow, back to what I wanted to say, he was selected to represent France in Eurovision 2008 with this song. Love the upbeat vibe and the nonchalance with which he sings about looking for a band and finding the Milky Way.

Sebastien Tellier - Divine (Danger Remix)
Extended remix for your listening pleasure.

Chairlift - Evident Utensil
Check this out at RCRD LBL. Psychedelic madness. Oooh oooh ooohs filled the airspace as you feel yourself go all slushy while those electronic beats pulsate.

Chairlift - Evident Utensil (Jacques Renault Remix)

Hercules & Love Affair - Blind (Frankie Knuckles Remix)
This had to come sooner or later, with all the love I've been giving to the original. Down tempo mix that's given it a house sort of beat. Niceeeeeeee!

HURTS - Wonderful Life (Arthur Baker remix)

Simian Mobile Disco - Cruel Intentions (feat. Beth Ditto) (Joker Dubstep Remix)

the loop line takes you round and through

Hercules & Love Affair - Blind
This song is making me go insane. The more I listen to it, the deeper it gets entrenched in this far-reaching and murky crevice of my brain. The song is drawing my entire consciousness into that small entity residing in that very unknown crevice, much like a black hole. The pulsing beat and especially the horn section would start going off in my head for no reason, it's so bloody infectious. Lush and full-bodied, it's almost like restrained insanity, I'm awash with different feelings all at the same time (epiphany doesn't feel like the right word, somehow.) The song is going to consume me.

Letting Up Despite Great Faults - In Steps
I love this. Hazy guitars again, dream-popish, vocals that are almost smothered by said guitars. Warm and fuzzy feeling that's making me feel all good.

Discovery - Osaka Loop Line
I'm being overrun, overwhelmed, overdosed with synths tonight. Not that it's a bad thing. The synths here almost sound like the background sounds in this MS-DOS game I used to play, can't remember the game name though. Hmms, is it tetris? DAMN IT. Hate this feeling of not being able to remember stuff.

the stars could only get brighter

Hercules and Love Affair - Blind
Ooooh, this is love. Can't believe I didn't hear this before. It's a project by DJ Andy Butler. The song is lush and full-bodied, the beats and various other instrumentation (such as the horn, you can hear it) do not overwhelm the vocals, which is unique sounding. The closest I'm reminded of is The Polyamorous Affair, but even that doesn't come so close. I'm totally awestruck by this song. It's positively infectious and let's not start on instant gratification.

"Because I feel blind, because I feel blind."

Hercules and Love Affair - Hercules' Theme
Old school disco never sounded this good. Why is it that the old stuff become in vogue only after the time has passed? Well, I guess that's why retro never goes out. Check out his love for horns and trumpets. Man, they're already in two songs.

Lindstrøm & Christabelle - Lovesick
Oh my, good stuff from Norwegian duo Lindstrøm & Christabelle, as they drop their new LP(?) "Real Life Is No Cool" next month. It's deep and slow, marauding into your brain as the rhythm sets in while the sultry vocals of Christabelle complements the hypnotic beats.
