The Saturday Mix #27

Cut Copy - Hearts on Fire (Aeroplane Remix)
This Belgian duo would be coming down for ZoukOut 2009.

The Big Pink - Too Young To Love (Delorean Remix)

Ellie Goulding - Under The Sheets (Jakwob Remix)

Crystal Fighters - I Love London (Qoso Remix)
There've been quite a number of remixes floating around on this awesome dance number and here's one by Qoso.

Florence & The Machine - You've Got The Love
Damn it, I totally missed out this song from her album "Lungs", very nice powerful sounding rock song. She's really got that voice don't you think? It stands out. Hmms, a bit like Beth Ditto. Only found out about it after hearing the remix, which is just as awesome.

Florence & The Machine - You've Got The Love (The xx Remix)
A remix by one of the most under-rated/understated acts of the year. But thing is, it sounds more like The xx covering this song, because throughout the remix, I can't seem to find traces of the original. If anyone can clarify if it's a remix or cover, please do get back to me.

Gossip - Heavy Cross (Siriusmo Dub)
This is a wicked Siriusmo putting his own spin on a Gossip song.

The Saturday Mix #26

Two Door Cinema Club - I Can Talk (Crystal Fighters Remix)

Chew Lips - Salt Air (Plastician Remix)

Chew Lips - Salt Air (Jupiter Remix)
I wonder which of the two do you guys think is better. My dollar is on Jupiter's remix.

Crystal Fighters - I Love London (In Flagranti Vintage Mix)
Ooh, I totally dig this remix. It's funky, swashbuckling and unrestrained. And that "doooh" sound, what instrument makes that sound? the keyboard?

Magic Wands - Black Magic (Crystal Fighters Remix)
More Crystal Fighters. They're pretty deft at churning out dancefloor stuff.

Chromeo - Night by Night
Canadian artists Chromeo present you Night by Night. And here's what they have to say about this track, "It's both more disco and more classic rock than our previous stuff. It's also the first time we try singing falsetto. We wanted a powerful, heroic track designed to provoke pelvic thrusting, coupled with sensitive lyrics about the fragility of relationships. Oh, and we had to get some talkbox in there, too. This was produced using nothing but analog gear in our new Montreal studio, and mixed in Paris by our cohort Philippe Zdar over the summer. With love, always."

Chromeo - Night by Night (Skream Remix)
This is good stuff by Skream.

a moment that is frozen as we hang in time

Cut Copy - Hearts on Fire
This song is the first single from their second album, "In Ghost Colours". Delectable electropop is their way, and this song makes good on that. Do i hear a sax in the background?

The Decemberists - Shiny
Sounds very carnival-ish, but deep down, it's a pure romantic song. Can always count on The Decemberists to come up with witty or meaningful stuff.

Orenda Fink - That Certain-Something Spring
Her songs are always so beautiful, and this delivers just as well. A very lulling voice and simple plucking of the guitar may seem like nothing, but it's this barebones way, that makes this song so alluring. Very contemplative lyrics as well.

Restless hearts, do they come with youth or age?
Now here we are, just trying to fill a page
Just trying to fill a page

Crystal Fighters - I Love London
There's this mad infectious beat, it makes the dance wanna course through your veins. This is bad ass. Just the video itself, you're already seeing one crazy half-wonked girl dancing on the streets, don't know if it could be considered dancing though, she's just madly throwing her body and moving her feet. That said, this song is pure dope.

I <3 LONDON!

The Saturday Mix #25 - you caught me under false pretense

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - Higher Than the Stars (Saint Etienne Visits Lord Spank Mix)
Pretty long band name plus 2 collabs on the remix = what a mouthful this title is. Very slow version, almost fit for ballroom dancing.

Muse - Supermassive Black Hole (Emre B Remix)
The remix at times tends to overwhelm the song, but overall pretty decent remix.

Miike Snow - Black & Blue (Jaymo & Andy George Remix)

Feist - My Moon My Man (Boys Noize Classic Remix)
I had never ever expected there to be a remix of such a song! It's like does Rachael Yamagata have a remix? Maybe I should go check it out and see if there's a remix of her. This is really cool, probably Alexander Ridha (Boys Noize is just his stage name) running his voice through the vocoder to give that "My Moon My Man" backdrop beat. FUNKY! And he doesn't ruin the original at that, it's more intertwined, giving My Moon My Man an alternative life as a dance song. It's a real pleasant surprise.

Two Door Cinema Club - I Can Talk (Crystal Fighters Remix)
Remember them? Here's a Crystal Fighters remix.

Passion Pit- Sleepyhead (LOL Boys Remix)
I don't like the first 2 minutes of the song, where they just added in stuff for the sake of doing so. The portion where the remix was done on the song was so much better. It would suffice if you cut the first 2 minutes off.

MSTRKRFT - Heartbreaker (feat. John Legend) (Laidback Luke Remix)
Dutch maestro Luke van Scheppingen gives his spin on this MSTRKRFT favourite.
