pretty girls don't just park where they want to

When romance is great, fine yes, there is no say there is no masochism to it. But love, can be terribly sadistic if it doesn't work out right. It can be one of the worst things that you can go through. It can be some of the biggest pain you'll ever feel in your life. So I do think there's a correlation between the two - we don't live in this kind of tactile sanctuous culture anymore where we feel things. Everything is digitised, including our love lives, including how we hook up with people, how we listen to music, read books, get our information. We end up creating a society full of narcissists who then adapt to the culture of narcissism and it's no longer cultural narcissism. It becomes the norm.

like stars burning holes right through the dark

Well, here's a lot of music to compensate for the lack of music for the past couple of days, been celebrating.

Nedry - Apples & Pears
Pretty interesting song with quite haunting vocals and electronic-ky stuff going on. Sometimes it's semi/full acoustic-electronic, if you get my drift. Oh like another song, Clouded which is terrific in my opinion. A little ambient, if you discount the whole blips and electronic thingamajig.

Ayu - Marching of the Night
She's the vocalist of Nedry. This track was her solo work, which shows how good her vocals are.

Discovery - Orange Shirt (mp3)
UBER cute, sweet little love song, just don't die on the sugar overdose. I really didn't expect this when clicking play. Neat touch that most can appreciate.

The xx - Basic Space (mp3)
For those not on The xx bandwagon yet (when are you ever gonna get on it huh?), get right on now with this download offered on their parent label site. You'd be hard-pressed to not love their music.

Run Toto Run - Sleepyhead (Passion Pit Cover)
Holy crikes, check this awesome cover of Passion Pit's song. Fantastic rendition without ANY synths or electronica or whatever. Just the guitar, xylophone, simple keyboard which she almost doesn't seem to use, a banjo or ukulele (i can't really make it out in the shadow) and violin. Damn it, it's good man. And the two guys in headmasks playing their instruments, esp the violin made me burst out in laughter. The whole juxtaposition is hilarious. Props much to Run Toto Run.

Here's what they said on myspace under this embedded video, "Email mail@runtotorun.co.uk and we'll email you the mp3".

The Big Pink - Love In Vain
All nice and slow, good change from their usual sound.

Anya Marina - Whatever You Like (T.I. Cover)
Really sexy and breathy cover of T.I.'s popular dance floor song. A collab for the two and a single, how about that?

The Polyamorous Affair - Merry Go Round
Belle du jour, rigga rigga? Party till the break of dawn. Solid track that's as good as New York City.

the loop line takes you round and through

Hercules & Love Affair - Blind
This song is making me go insane. The more I listen to it, the deeper it gets entrenched in this far-reaching and murky crevice of my brain. The song is drawing my entire consciousness into that small entity residing in that very unknown crevice, much like a black hole. The pulsing beat and especially the horn section would start going off in my head for no reason, it's so bloody infectious. Lush and full-bodied, it's almost like restrained insanity, I'm awash with different feelings all at the same time (epiphany doesn't feel like the right word, somehow.) The song is going to consume me.

Letting Up Despite Great Faults - In Steps
I love this. Hazy guitars again, dream-popish, vocals that are almost smothered by said guitars. Warm and fuzzy feeling that's making me feel all good.

Discovery - Osaka Loop Line
I'm being overrun, overwhelmed, overdosed with synths tonight. Not that it's a bad thing. The synths here almost sound like the background sounds in this MS-DOS game I used to play, can't remember the game name though. Hmms, is it tetris? DAMN IT. Hate this feeling of not being able to remember stuff.

i can't help this feeling

Chew Lips - Rising Tide
Very lovely electronic ballad. But what a feature on Guardian said is true, there's no lack of electro bands out there right now, and how is she(Tigs and for that matter Chew Lips as a band) gonna differentiate themselves? My money is on them to stand out this year though. Look out for their release of "Unicorn" on 25 Jan.

Chew Lips - Solo
Check out this blasting awesome single of theirs as well!

Discovery - So Insane
Well, clearly they have polarised opinion just like Dirty Projector's "Bitte Orca", many have lauded "Bitte Orca" but some have panned it, simply put as sounding like crap (for the record, i think DP's are really really good). Discovery's apparently down the same lane, but well, I love this song! While it's not insane, the beats are pretty catchy and Rostam's (of Vampire Weekend) vocals kinda work. He's teamed up with Ra Ra Riot's Wes Miles. Ohh, and it's fitting that Angel Deradoorian of Dirty Projectors features in one of the track's in their LP.

Princeton - Calypso Gold(mp3)
From the band's own site.
